Why Probiotical Home Care Products are Superior to Disinfectants

Although it is necessary to keep the home clean, not all of the microorganisms living there are harmful to human health, and not all of them need to be killed. 

A faulty belief that there should be as few microorganisms as possible in our living environment has caused the occurrence of antibiotic-resistant pathogens. Step by step, dangerous microorganisms increased their pathogenicity and became more resistant to aggressive ways to kill them with cleaning agents. 

Also, it’s known that concentrated artificial cleaning agents can weaken the human immune system and cause various allergic reactions. Against this background, the demand for alternative means to care for homes without harming human health and the environment rises.

The Rationale Behind Using Probiotic Cleaning Agents

Scientists agree that good bacteria – probiotics – improve the digestive system, strengthen immunity, decrease cholesterol and lower the risk of developing cancer or other diseases. If good bacteria are introduced using probiotic cleaning agents, our bodies naturally meet them by touching the surfaces or breathing them.

A downside of too sterile surfaces, cleaned with chemical disinfectants, is that your home remains unprotected from the new contamination with pathogens. In such an empty “space,” the pathogens can spread freely. In comparison, probiotics in cleaning agents can create a natural competition among microorganisms. This healthy microbiological balance doesn’t allow pathogens to spread.

This is why we’ve supposed that cleaning means with probiotics help decrease the number of harmful microorganisms, including pathogens, by covering the surfaces with superior, healthy bacteria. The experiment we’ve then made has only proven our assumptions. 

The Experiment

The experiment aimed to evaluate the competitional features that probiotic-supplemented home care products have over other microorganisms. We tracked the amounts of probiotic bacteria and other microorganisms while cleaning the kitchen table and chest of drawers’ surface with probiotic home care product and a 70 % ethyl alcohol disinfectant. 

The experiment was held in the “Probiosanus “production unit from March 2021 to July 2021. To evaluate probiotic bacteria impact on other microorganisms, the kitchen table and chest of drawers were cleaned with PROBIOTIC CRAFT multi-surface cleaner. At the same time, the microbiological composition of kitchen cloth was researched.  Then we compared how the amounts of microorganisms differ when cleaning the surfaces with 70 % ethyl alcohol disinfectant and probiotic home care products. Half of the chest of drawers and the table were cleaned with disinfectant. The remaining half was cleaned with probiotic multi-surface cleaner. Finally, we used PROBIOTIC CRAFT dishwashing liquid to evaluate the number of probiotic bacteria in dishwashing sponges.

After using probiotic home care products, the surfaces were instantly covered with probiotic bacteria while the numbers of other microorganisms significantly decreased. When used regularly, the probiotics from the probiotic cleaner remained on the surfaces even after 2 days. On the fifth day after we stopped using probiotic home care product (23rd day of the experiment), the numbers of different microorganisms significantly increased while probiotic bacteria significantly decreased.

The next step was to compare how probiotic multi-surface cleaner and disinfectant deal with microorganisms. Looking at the table below, you can see that the numbers of other microorganisms significantly decreased directly after cleaning with both agents – disinfectant and probiotic cleaner. However, even when regularly cleaned with 70 % alcohol disinfectant, the number of other microorganisms on the surfaces increased much more after 2-3 days compared to the corners cleaned with probiotics. 

Probiotic bacteria create a long-lasting defense against other microorganisms because their numbers stay low even after 2-3 days after the cleaning. Also, a few probiotics were noticed even on the side of the table cleaned with disinfectant, probably because the probiotics tend to spread in the whole home environment.

The final table below shows that regular use of home care products with probiotics for the whole week resulted in significant numbers of probiotic bacteria remaining on the dishwashing sponge (left) and kitchen cloth (right). Also, probiotics controlled the number of other microorganisms: when probiotic bacteria increased, the number of different microorganisms simultaneously decreased. In the samples with more other microorganisms, the amounts of probiotics were lower.

What Are the Conclusions?

This experiment has provided real evidence that the regular use of PROBIOTIC CRAFT home care products allows controlling the amounts of microorganisms in the home environment. When probiotic bacteria cover the cleaned surfaces, the amounts of other microorganisms decrease. Also, compared to 70 % ethyl alcohol disinfectant, probiotic home care products provide long-lasting defense against other microorganisms.
